Detox is the part of the work where the need for structure and steadiness is highest and the stay is shortest. You will run the groups, sit with people on their hardest day, and hand them to the next level of care in a condition to use it.

The schedule

  • Four ten-hour days or five eight-hour days — you pick with your supervisor, and it holds.
  • Weekend coverage is part of the role, not an occasional ask. Say yes to it deliberately.
  • On site in North Austin. This is not a hybrid or remote position.

What you will do

  • Lead group sessions and facilitate therapeutic discussion.
  • Offer individual counseling and crisis support as the day requires it.
  • Monitor the milieu for safety and for how clients are treating each other.
  • Work with the team so care does not restart at the weekend handover.
  • Document client progress in BestNotes.
  • Support intern development and act as a weekend resource for the floor.

What you need

Required

  • LCDC, or another Qualified Credentialed Counselor credential.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred, not required

  • Bachelor's or master's degree.
  • Two or more years in detox or substance use counseling.
  • Familiarity with 12-step programs, detox protocols and trauma-informed care.

If you hold the credential and the rest is thin, apply anyway. The preferred list is what we would like, not a filter we run.

Where you would work

North Austin — our Austin detox at 11711 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78753. A quiet clinical office setting on our own campus, with documentation tools, office space and a team on the floor at the weekend as well as midweek. On site, every shift.

Before you click apply

The application runs in Proliant and asks for everything in one sitting: resume first, then your details, then two previous employers with dates, supervisor names and supervisor phone numbers, then two references with contact details, then a background-check consent. It does not save partway through.

Twenty minutes at a desk with those to hand. If it defeats you, call (512) 213-4304 and ask for HR rather than giving up.

Questions about this role

What does the Detox Counselor role at Briarwood pay?

$45,000 to $65,000 a year, depending on experience. The range is published on the posting rather than discussed later, and it is the range the role is budgeted at.

Do I need an LCDC to apply?

Yes. An LCDC, or another Qualified Credentialed Counselor credential, is required, along with a high school diploma or GED. A degree and two years in detox or substance use counseling are preferred but not required — if you hold the credential and the rest is thin, apply anyway.

What is the schedule, and does it include weekends?

Four ten-hour days or five eight-hour days, agreed with your supervisor. Weekend coverage is part of this role rather than an occasional ask, so it is worth saying yes to deliberately. The position is on site every shift.

Where is the job located?

North Austin — Briarwood Detox Center, 11711 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78753. It is not remote or hybrid, and it is not at a Wimberley or Hill Country campus.

How long does the application take?

About twenty minutes at a desk. The application asks for everything in one sitting: your resume first, then your details, then two previous employers with supervisor names and phone numbers, then two references, then a background-check consent. It does not save partway through.

Does Briarwood hire people in recovery?

Yes. We welcome applicants from every background, including people with lived experience of recovery. It is an asset in this building and it is never something you are asked to explain.

Who is the employer — Briarwood Detox or Nova Recovery?

Briarwood Detox Center is the brand and the building. Nova Recovery LLC is the legal employer named on the application and on the offer, so that is the name you will see in the applicant system.

Equal opportunity

We welcome applicants from every background, including people with lived experience of recovery. Hiring decisions are made on credential, experience and fit for the role. Briarwood Detox Center is operated by Nova Recovery LLC, which is the employer named on the application.

Rather just send us your details?

The full application above is the one that gets you into the hiring process, and it is worth the twenty minutes. But if you are reading this between clients and do not have two references to hand, leave your details and a person from HR will come back to you.

Goes to Briarwood HR. We will not add you to a marketing list, and this is not a treatment enquiry. Prefer to talk? Call (512) 213-4304.
