Briarwood Detox Center

Our programsIntensive outpatient

Virtual IOP you can attend from Dallas

Briarwood does not have a building in Dallas. What it has is an intensive outpatient program that runs hybrid — so you can do the same groups, at the same times, with the same clinical team, from where you already live.

What is actually on offer here

Our centers are in Austin, Houston and San Antonio. If you are in Dallas and looking for intensive outpatient treatment, the honest position is this: we cannot give you a room to walk into, and we are not going to pretend otherwise by putting a Dallas address on a page.

What we can give you is a seat in a real group. Our San Antonio intensive outpatient program is hybrid — the people attending online are in the same session as the people in the room, not a separate cohort — and Dallas is a three-hour drive or a video call away. Most people choose the video call.

When the groups meet, Central time

Intensive outpatient runs on a fixed weekly schedule so you can plan work, school and childcare around it. Where the exact times are set, they are below.

When this works well

  • Withdrawal is managed, or was never a medical risk for you
  • You have somewhere stable and substance-free to sleep in Dallas
  • Work, school or caring responsibilities make travelling impractical
  • You can find three private hours a session, three times a week
  • Your shifts rotate, so a fixed room at a fixed time was never realistic

When it does not

If stopping is physically dangerous for you — and with alcohol and benzodiazepines it can be — then detox comes first, and detox cannot happen over a video call. That means travelling to Austin, Houston or San Antonio for the first few days. Read what medical detox involves before you plan around a group.

And if home in Dallas is where the using happened, attending from that same room is a much harder ask than it sounds. Residential treatment or sober living gives it a better chance, and we will say so on the call rather than sell you this.

Straight answers

Virtual IOP from Dallas — common questions

Does Briarwood have a facility in Dallas?

No. Briarwood's centers are in Austin, Houston and San Antonio. What is available to somebody in Dallas is intensive outpatient treatment attended online, in the same groups as the people in the room.

When does the virtual IOP group meet?

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 12:00pm – 3:00pm; and Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6:00pm – 9:00pm. Both are Central time, and you can move between them as your schedule changes.

Is virtual IOP the same program as in-person?

Yes. It is one group, running at one time, that you can either drive to or join from a laptop — not a separate online-only cohort and not a recording to catch up on.

Can I do detox from Dallas too?

No. Detox is medical care that has to happen in a building, and ours are in Austin, Houston and San Antonio. If withdrawal is a risk for you, that comes first and it means travelling.

What do I need to attend online?

A device with a camera, a connection that holds a video call, and somewhere you can speak privately for three hours. The last one is the part people underestimate.

Ask which group has a seat this week

Group sizes are capped and openings change weekly. An assessment settles whether outpatient is the right level of care for you before anything is scheduled, and it costs nothing.

For what outpatient treatment involves at every level, who delivers it and how it fits with everything before and after it, read outpatient treatment. For the programs that run in a room, see Austin IOP and Houston IOP.

If a mental-health condition is part of it

Most people in outpatient treatment are carrying something alongside the substance use. These pages describe how each one is handled during detox, and what continues afterwards.
