Briarwood Detox Center — Step 7 worksheet
Step 7 worksheet — asking, and what humility actually is
Step 7 asks you to humbly request that the shortcomings you became willing to release in Step 6 be taken away.
Humility gets confused with humiliation and with low self-worth. It is neither. It is an accurate size — no larger than you are, and no smaller.
Humility, examined
What did I think humility meant before I got here?
Where do I make myself bigger than I am?
Where do I make myself smaller than I am — and who does that protect?
Who do I know who seems genuinely humble? What is that actually like?
What I am asking to have removed
Carry these forward from Step 6. Be specific; "being a bad person" is not a shortcoming.
The three I would name first:
What I have already tried, and how that went:
What I will do differently when the old pattern starts — the action, not the intention:
In my own words
Write your own. Whatever you settled on in Step 2 is who you are addressing, and it does not need to sound like anyone else.
My Step 7 ask:
Before you put this away
A worksheet is a way to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. It is not the step. Step 7 is worked with a sponsor, a counselor, or someone else who has done it — they will see things in these pages that you cannot see yourself.
Who am I going to show this to, and when?
What did I leave off these pages because I did not want to write it down?
