Using Imperial insurance for detox
If you are holding an Imperial card and trying to work out whether it gets you in here, the short answer is that it depends on which Imperial plan you have — and the card alone will not tell you.
What an Imperial card actually is
Imperial Insurance Companies, Inc. sells marketplace plans in Texas, and provider access for those plans runs through networks rather than a direct Imperial contract — PCHS and MultiPlan. Briarwood is contracted with both. Imperial also sells Medicare Advantage plans, and Briarwood does not accept Medicare.
Marketplace, not Medicare
This is the distinction worth getting right before you call. Imperial sells marketplace plans through the Texas exchange, and it also sells Medicare Advantage. Briarwood works with the marketplace side and does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
If your plan came through Medicare, we will say so on the first call rather than after an assessment. The SAMHSA National Helpline is free and confidential, and can refer you to programs that do take it.
Why the network name matters
Imperial decides your benefits. A network — PCHS or MultiPlan, and Briarwood is contracted with both — decides which providers you can use at in-network rates. Both have to line up, and a benefits check confirms both in one call. Using your insurance covers how that works across every carrier we see.
Common questions
Is Briarwood in network with Imperial?+
Provider access for Imperial marketplace plans in Texas runs through networks rather than a direct Imperial contract — PCHS and MultiPlan — and Briarwood is contracted with both of them.
Why does my card say one thing and the network another?+
Because they do different jobs. Imperial issues the plan and decides the benefits. A rented network like MultiPlan supplies the list of providers you can use at in-network rates; it does not issue policies and does not pay claims.
Does Briarwood accept Imperial Medicare Advantage?+
No. Imperial sells Medicare Advantage plans in Texas as well as marketplace plans, and Briarwood does not accept Medicare or Medicaid in any form.
How do I find out what my plan actually pays?+
A benefits check, which is free and takes a few minutes on the phone. It reads your specific plan rather than the average one, and it covers the deductible, what is left of it this year, and what detox would cost you.
What if the check says I am not covered here?+
Then you get told that on the first call, before an assessment and before anything is scheduled. A surprise bill after treatment is worse than a no on the phone.
One call reads your actual plan
Free, confidential, and answered 24 hours a day in English and Spanish. Have the card handy — the member ID and group number are what speed it up.
